As we progress the #itsmyjourney work at VGA, a recurring theme is the parent-coach relationship and ensuring that adults within the support network are focused on the child's journey and what is best for them. This is why we also have the #itsTHEIRjourney focus to the work we are doing, this acts as a reminder to us all that this is about the young people we are supporting.

At the forefront of our work is a child centred approach. How can we best support the child at the centre of each of these relationships to thrive on their journey in sport and beyond. With this in mind we focus on the following areas:
Each child is absolutely unique...Just like everybody else! They all have:
Shared human experiences.
A unique combination of traits.
A balance of uniqueness and commonality.
And break them down in to these themes:
Navigating change
Working towards my goals
Coping with setback
What is the role of each individual in the parent-child-coach triad?
Within the parent-child-coach triad it's important to remember that:
Each individual has their own roles and responsibilities (the green boxes)
Each individual then has to build an effective working relationship with the others (the orange arrows)

Pause and reflect:
Use the information in the diagram above to reflect on how you are doing at the moment whichever role you are in. The questions below will also help you:
How am I doing with the list of focus points in my box?
What am I doing well?
What do I need to work on?
How will I make improvements in those areas?
How am I doing with each of the relationships that I need to focus on?
Are there parts of these relationships that are going well?
Are there parts of these relationships that I find difficult?
How will I make improvements in those areas?
